When Lightbulbs Lead The Way

Level 2 Educator Training

A NOTE FROM SHARI

For me, Fall has always been a season to refocus and begin again. Even here in Florida, where the weather shift is subtle, I can still feel Fall in the air. During this time, I found myself reflecting on House Of Harbinger and what I’ve really been building over the years. The countless hours I’ve spent researching, refining, and teaching suddenly came together in a single moment of clarity. I realized that I had created a framework of blueprints for three distinct approaches to cutting textured hair using a tool that I helped develop. Just like in architecture, a blueprint is never static. It’s a living foundation that can be built upon, refined, and reimagined, much like a house that keeps evolving over time, when new perspectives or ideas come to light.

This summer was an intense season of focus. I poured myself into preparing for the DevaCurl Level 2 educator program in cutting textures. The training itself was a huge success and the feedback was overwhelming, in the best way! It reminded me of something I can never hear enough:

THE WORK WE DO MATTERS: AND WHEN WE SHARE OUR KNOWLEDGE, IT MULTIPLIES.

This is where my role as a consultant came into focus. I was invited to offer these blueprints to help the educators get started, but my greater responsibility was to guide them as builders and designers and remind them that with time and practice, they can evolve into architects of their own unique blueprints, with the freedom to alter, and customize each design with confidence, just like a house that evolves with every new perspective and idea. And that’s where the beauty lies: in the infinite possibilities we can create for every client, each time we pick up our tools. There is always room to refine, adjust and evolve an existing blueprint.

And lo and behold, I had a lightbulb moment!

House Of Harbinger s more than a brand. I now see how it's a living blueprint, one that keeps evolving. Like architecture, it’s never static, but something to be built upon, refined, and reimagined.

This realization felt brand new, even though I’ve been working toward it all along. It reminded me that these flashes of insights can reframe everything you thought you knew. Summer gifted me one of those moments. My hope is that these insights spark reflections to help illuminate your own path as architects of your own house.

Here’s to fresh starts, bold insights, and many more lightbulbs ahead.

House Of Harbinger Brand

Aligning Your Brand AND Your Value Proposition

When the idea of the brand name House Of Harbinger was first presented to me, it didn’t fully resonate. At the time, I saw it as a place where all the knowledge I’d gained and shared over the years could simply be housed, preserved, and accessed. And that was true. But recently, something shifted when I had that lightbulb moment of building houses which included: creating the blueprint, the structure, and the design, I realized that House of Harbinger wasn’t just a portal for my work…it was the work itself!

Over the years, I’ve built numerous “houses” or blueprints for cutting textured hair, that I’ve shared with the community. And in my role as a consultant with DevaCurl, I’ve seen this play out in real time. My responsibility this past month was to share three new blueprints with the educators and guide them as builders and designers. Once the blueprint is in hand, the work becomes their own. And, using the proven Cutting Clock tool, they adapt it, refine it, and evolve it into something uniquely theirs. That moment of alignment changed everything for me. For the first time, my brand name made sense.

What about you?

🔎 What is in your brand name? It might be your actual name, your salon name, or a phrase that carries meaning and personality. Your brand name is the identity you present to the world. It’s the “house” where your work lives. It is an extension of who you are and what people can expect from you.

Is your brand and name clear?

🔎 What is your value proposition? It’s what sets you apart. It is your unique combination of skill, perspective, and care that makes people choose you. Your value proposition is the promise of value you deliver to your clients. It could be a technical specialty or approach, or even the way you create space for clients to feel seen and understood.

Is your value proposition clear? invite you to reflect:

🔎 Does your brand name and value proposition make sense to the people you serve?

Because when they do, the lightbulbs will go off. And suddenly, everything about your work will feel clearer, stronger, and more connected to your purpose.

TUNING IN

I’ve just shared with you that one of my strongest suits is the Consultation. This process involves getting to know the client as you get to know their hair. So many stylists believe they’ve mastered the consultation, I have learned that true mastery isn’t about rushing through a checklist, it’s about presence… with an open dialogue that requires tuning in and staying fully with the client in front of you. That can be challenging when your mind is pulled in ten directions, thinking about the client processing, the one waiting, or the next one on the schedule. But the real magic happens when you slow down, tune into their energy, and give them your full attention. Just like walking my dog, Chloe, and letting her take in the world at her pace, sniffing, exploring, and feeling seen. Chloe has been a teacher for me in this: reminding me daily to slow down, and stay present, by being in the moment instead of rushing through it. Our clients need that same allowance. When we stop rushing and truly tune in, the consultation becomes more than a conversation: it becomes connection. And when you get that connection, it gives you clarity. Clarity about which blueprint is right for their goals, and how you can customize and refine it with the insights you’ve gathered in that moment.
