A NOTE FROM SHARI
March, for me, feels a little like January. It brings another opportunity to reflect on what has passed and consider what might be taking shape next.
That feeling is especially strong this year as my most recent consultancy comes to a pause.
Just over a year ago, synchronicity brought me back to DevaCurl, where I had the opportunity to help rebuild and strengthen a curriculum that had been dormant for nearly five years. Along the way, I coached, guided, and learned alongside an incredible team of educators preparing to step into leadership roles within the curl community.
Looking back, I’m struck by the timing of it all.
An opportunity I wasn't expecting arrived at exactly the right moment and gave me the chance to return to familiar work with a different perspective, greater depth, and a clearer understanding of what I had to contribute.
And now, another pause.
I don't know exactly what comes next. But I've learned that not knowing doesn't mean nothing is happening.
Sometimes a pause creates the space to recognize a new direction before we fully understand where it is leading.
So I’m meeting this one with gratitude for what has been and curiosity about what is still taking shape.
It seems fitting that this month’s theme is synchronicity.
For me, synchronicity is what happens when timing, circumstance, and readiness intersect in a way that makes us pay attention.
Sometimes it arrives as a person.
Sometimes an opportunity.
Sometimes an unexpected return to something we thought we had left behind.
And sometimes, we don't understand its significance until much later.
WHEN THE STARS (AND CLIENTS) ALIGN
Synchronicity shows up behind the chair too.
A new client finds you at exactly the moment you're ready to do your best work. A mentor appears when you're ready to hear something differently. An educational opportunity changes the way you think. A challenge forces you to develop a skill you didn't know you needed.
We don't always know what those moments will become while we're living them.
But when we pay attention, we begin to recognize which experiences are asking something more of us.
Whether you're behind the chair, investing in your education, or considering what's next for your business, notice what keeps showing up.
Notice what energizes you.
Notice what challenges you.
Notice what seems to be pointing you somewhere new.
Sometimes the direction becomes visible before the destination does.
If any of this resonates, read on.
Right Place, Right Time
how synchronicity shapes our path
THE POWER OF SYNCHRONICITY IN YOUR CAREER
Synchronicity can show up in surprisingly practical ways. Sometimes it’s a coincidence that makes you stop and pay attention. Sometimes it’s an opportunity arriving when you finally feel ready for it.
Here are a few ways you might recognize it in your own career.
THE PERFECT CLIENT AT THE RIGHT TIME
✅ You’ve been practicing a new cutting technique or color placement, and just as your confidence begins to grow, a client sits in your chair asking for exactly what you’ve been working on.
I remember those moments so clearly from my own time behind the chair. They felt like little confirmations that the work I had been putting in was beginning to meet the opportunity to use it.
EDUCATION LEADS SOMEWHERE UNEXPECTED
✅ You feel drawn to a particular class, and you leave with far more than technical knowledge. You meet a mentor, a collaborator, or someone who introduces you to an opportunity you never anticipated.
This takes me back to the years I spent learning alongside my partners. Again and again, investing in education gave us something we couldn't have predicted when we signed up for the class.
Sometimes what you learn isn't the only reason you were there.
THE RIGHT SOLUTION APPEARS
✅ You’ve been struggling with a particular challenge behind the chair when a new product, tool, or approach appears that helps you solve it differently.
I witnessed the other side of this firsthand during the creation and development of DevaCurl products. We paid attention to what clients needed, and those needs helped inform what we created.
Sometimes synchronicity isn't about finding what you need.
Sometimes you're the person creating what someone else has been waiting for.
THE UNEXPECTED PAUSE
✅ A fully booked day suddenly opens because of a cancellation.
Instead of immediately filling the space, what if you ask yourself what you need from it?
Maybe you refine an idea, read something that inspires you, work on your business, or simply rest.
There were countless times in my career when an unexpected opening gave me exactly the space I needed to see something differently.
THE RIGHT OPPORTUNITY APPEARS WHEN YOU'RE READY
✅ You’ve been feeling the pull to expand. Maybe you're considering education, renting a suite, changing direction, or building something of your own.
Then a conversation, an introduction, an industry event, or even something you see online presents an opportunity you hadn't anticipated.
Looking back on my own career, I can identify many moments like these. I didn't always understand their importance when they happened.
Sometimes recognition comes later.
That, for me, is part of the power of synchronicity.
It doesn't require us to believe that every coincidence is a sign or that every event was destined to happen.
It simply asks us to pay attention.
Because when timing, readiness, and opportunity intersect, something that initially looks like coincidence might be worth noticing.
Trust The Timing
synchronicity in action
Here are some fun (and meaningful) indicators:
SIGNS THAT MAKE ME PAY ATTENTION
Here are a few of the indicators that tend to get my attention:
🔎 REPEATING NUMBERS
Some people interpret repeating numbers like 111, 222, 333, or 11:11 as signs of alignment or reassurance.
For me, 111 carries a very personal significance.
My home has an address of 111, and I closed on 1/11, which happens to be my father’s birthday. Before he passed, he gave me his blessing on the house.
Was it coincidence? Synchronicity? Something else entirely?
I don't need to know.
I know what it meant to me.
🔎 WHEN THINGS BEGIN TO FLOW
Sometimes circumstances begin falling into place with surprising ease. An opportunity arrives. The timing works. Something that felt difficult suddenly begins moving.
My unexpected opportunity to return to DevaCurl and help rebuild the curriculum felt that way. The pieces came together naturally at a point when I was ready to bring a different level of experience to the work.
🔎 COINCIDENCES THAT GET YOUR ATTENTION
You think of someone and they call. You're considering a new direction and an unexpected opportunity appears.
Last month, just as my consultancy contract was being paused, I received an email about another opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of an innovation in the beauty industry.
I didn't know where it would lead.
But I noticed the timing.
🔎 A DEEP SENSE OF INNER KNOWING
Sometimes there isn't an external sign at all.
You simply recognize that something feels different.
I've been learning to pay closer attention to that feeling without demanding that I immediately know the outcome. For me, allowing means trusting what I recognize while remaining open to where it might lead.
🔎 GRATITUDE IN THE MIDDLE OF UNCERTAINTY
Perhaps one of the strongest indicators for me is gratitude.
Not because everything is perfect or because I know exactly what comes next, but because I can appreciate where I am while still allowing something new to unfold.
There is no moment more valuable than this one, right here and now.
MAYBE SYNCHRONICITY ISN'T ABOUT FINDING PROOF.
Maybe it's about noticing. The number that makes you stop. The opportunity that arrives at an interesting moment. The internal shift you can't quite explain. The coincidence that stays with you.
You don't have to know exactly what any of it means.
Sometimes paying attention is enough.
